The 2021 ESSEC Foundation Ceremony at glance

On September 22, the annual ESSEC Foundation ceremony took place at the Hotel Potocki in Paris. A solemn and moving event which brought together the ESSEC community in its diversity around equal opportunities and academic excellence.

1st edition for the Capitaine Chomel de Jarnieu Prize
This year exceptionally, the ESSEC Foundation welcomed Major General Pierre-Joseph Givre for awarding the Capitaine Chomel de Jarnieu Prize to Cheer Up, a student association reflecting humanism, one of the strong values held by ESSEC.
Created on December 11, 2019 in tribute to Romain Chomel de Jarnieu (E08), who died for France in Mali, this prize rewards a project carried by an ESSEC student within an association or structure in favor of a human commitment to service of people in difficulty.
Cheer Up, which has been working since 2003 to help young people with cancer and hospitalized, wins this award thanks to its ICARE project, which offers first flights to 12 patients each year.

Academic Excellence Awards
In its new RISE strategy, ESSEC makes a strong commitment: to become the school of reference to accompany and positively influence the way to answer the questions and the new needs of companies, organizations and society. It is in response to this ambition that the Foundation honored this year 7 professors for the excellence of their teaching and their research: Chrystelle Richard, Florence Cavelius, Cristina Terra, Laurence Lescourret, Rémi Triolet, Jeroen Rombouts and Laurent Bach.

Social grants to support equal opportunities
Scholarship students were also honored and officially received their social scholarship during the evening. ESSEC mission is to let its excellent training to be accessible to all talented students, without their financial resources constituting an obstacle. Through its #Together approach, one of the pillars of its new strategy, the school is continuing its commitment to equal opportunities. It also plans to welcome a growing number of scholarship students by 2023, and will strengthen its diversity system with oral double calls for scholarship candidates from the 2022 entrance exams.

Testimony of Michel Baroni, ESSEC Professors Dean

« ESSEC is among the best French academic institutions in terms of research, if the criterion is the number of academic publications produced by the faculty each year. The research of our teachers also feeds the daily content of the courses, and provides to our students the level of reflection and mastery of management sciences that they need for their professional development. »

“ESSEC’s Philanthropy Chair is a means of building dialog between academic research and philanthropic activity, which until now have stood in isolation from one another. It also brings to the table a European perspective, previously lacking in understanding a sector that’s fast-growing, but still needs structure - especially in France.”
